Great resource!

I have the task of planning crafts for a Wednesday night children's program. I love doing the craft, but sometimes have a hard time finding craft that work well. This book is a wonderful resource! Every craft has a drawing of the craft and some steps envolved. All patterns are included and the book is reproducibe. It is divided into two main sections: crafts for prekindergarten-kindergarten, and crafts for 1-6 graders. However, all craft seem fun and interesting. There are craft for many stories of the Bible, and sometimes 3 or 4! I am looking forward to trying all of the crafts!

I have to say I was very disappointed. I only liked about 7 or 8 crafts from the entire book. I thought they seemed too complicated and time consuming, especially for the younger kids. I'd recommend "The Encyclopedia of Bible Crafts for Preschoolers" also, "The Encyclopedia of Bible Crafts for Kids". Much easier and includes a mini lesson.

I dabble in photography as an art form. One of the things I like to do is make a series of prints and assemble them into a bound book or portfolio. It was several years ago that the urge came upon me to investigate making of books and portfolios myself. While casting about among a limited set of resources, I came upon Franz Zeier's guide. It has been my guidepost ever since. In fact, it is a measure of Zeier's success that this volume has been in print in English for 12 years and is still in print.
Zeier's objective, to provide clear instructions for building many paper-based objects without the need for mechanical tools. Nor does he focus on decorative techniques. Because of this, he does not investigate leather binding, blind and gold tooling, gilt edges, decorated papers, and other such additions. He believes that the opportunities afforded by the basic, 'preliminary' techniques are sufficiently enough to satisfy the many of the creative urges of hobbyists and craftsmen.
The text addresses materials, techniques, solids, mats, boxes, portfolios, books and albums in a straightforward, easy to follow fashion. The book itself is extremely well made, obviously intended for survival in the workshop. An interesting feature is that Zeier eschews photographs, preferring to illustrate his techniques with drawings. I think this works well, because a drawing can emphasize the important parts of a process better than a camera can.

About the Author

Pastor Carlos Luna is affectionately called "Cash" by his family because as a small child he could not pronounce his own name. He graduated from college with cum laude honors and a degree in information systems administration from the Francisco Marroquín University in the City of Guatemala and in 2002 he earned a doctorate in pastoral ministries from California Christian University. He was a dedicated businessman until God called him into the ministry. In 1994 the Lord Jesus called him to pastor "Casa de Dios (House of God)" together with his wife Sonia. An experience of the glory of God one Sunday evening during a church service was the beginning of a powerful movement of the Holy Spirit, "Nights of Glory." Pastor Luna has held crusades of healing and miracles in several countries throughout the Americas. Today, "Casa de Dios" in Guatemala is a thriving church with more than twenty-thousand active members and organized by means of small groups.

Powerful!!!

Read this book and couldn't put it down. Being familiar with the author's TV ministry, I wanted to see how it not only came about, but how the power of God was manifested in the thousands of miracles he has experienced. There is powerful anointing on every page. It was difficult to read without the Holy Spirit speaking to me at every turn of the page. Very powerful, I would recommend this reading to anyone who desires to have an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit. You too can have that same relationship, anointing, and power.

I gave it the highest rating beause this man KNOWS the Holy Spirit. I do not speak Spanish but one day I was going thru the channels and he was on. I was drawn to his program because I knew he was moving in the Holy Spirit. Even tho I could not understnd his words I recognized the Holy Spirit ministering thru him. I was taught by the same Holy Spirit so I recognize Him and how He moves thru people. Very few know Him the Holy Spirit so when you come across someone who does it's awesome.

Wrong book shipped

My review is not about the product. I already owned a copy of the New Century Hymnal and like it very much. I ordered a second copy to give to the church music director. What Amazon sent me was the New Century Hymnal pew edition. I understand human error but when I ordered, I was told they only had a couple left and by the time the error was discovered they had none. I was disappointed and Amazon did not seem particularly remorseful. I also found the return to be difficult because I kept getting redirected because the item I was returning was out of stock. I don't know why they should not want to receive back an item out of stock but I finally had to call and reach a person, and that person also had trouble with the return for the same reason.

resale prices are silly

If you want a copy of this, you can still order it directly from the Pilgrim Press, for a little over twice the cost of the regular edition. The reseller prices on amazon as I'm writing this review are ridiculous - they are asking hundreds of dollars!

The hymnal itself is still controversial, with its gender-neutral language and so on, but we've used it in my church for a while and I've gotten used to it. I still prefer the old red-cover Pilgrim Hymnal, but this isn't bad.

This Book Helped Me

Early in my ministry I relied on this book to give me insight. He opened my eyes to problems that I was facing. One in particular was the section about churches where most of the members are related and the limitations for growth. Also, Leading Your Church to Growth helped me to understand the importance of pastoral leadership in revitalization. I wish that Mr. Wagner had experience as a pastor. Otherwise, I appreciate his writings.

"When God's People Start Prayin"ÿ

I found this book to be inspiring and illuminating. Not only does this book explore the revival sweeping the land of Argentina through the instruments God has choosen to use, but it also gives the reader practical application for partnering with God to bring revival to other parts of the world. As a personal fan of Wagner, I find this book to be one of his greatest. With collaboration from other writers Wagner gives insight on how to keep the "fire" burning and how to keep the "fire" growing. I challenge all non-believers and strict dogmatic christians to "taste and see that the Lord is good" in the Rising Revival!

Must reading for those seeking the truth!

I got a copy of the Rising Revival with genuine openness to the present progress to the revival that has been going on in Argentina since the 50s. After reading the book, I was convinced that something is terribly wrong with what is going on there. The message was clear, but somehow people are reading this book without picking up the strong clues. Example: "Never before has the occult thrived and proliferated in Argentina as it has in recent years. Deeply entrenched in some rituals of the Roman Catholic Church, the occult has multiplied through sects and new religious movements, especially among the spiritualist Afro-Brazilian cults and Afro-Caribbean cults and within most of the indigenous religion of Latin America." The Rising Revival, p. 81 If this is what the present emphasis on Spiritual Mapping, Spiritual Warfare, etc., is bringing to Argentina, do we really want to import the same thing to different countries all over the world? Dennis serves as the daily host of the radio program FamilyLife Today. Dennis and Barbara have authored more than two dozen books, including the bestselling Moments Together for Couples. The Raineys have six children and nineteen grandchildren.

Best for couples with kids

My husband and I have a great relationship, and we are always looking for encouraging devotionals to build us up, and even convict us in areas we need it. This one is ok, but highly geared toward couples with kids. We have only found a few devotionals that focus on the couple with out children, or make the couple the priority of the book. This one does not fit into that category. My husband and I thought it would be better titled for "Moments together for couples with children" since so much of the book focus on that are of a couples relationship.

Did you know that experts recommend 45 minutes of meaningful conversation daily between husband and wife? Apparently that is the amount of time which helps keep spouses together emotionally and spiritually, and which keeps a marriage strong.
My wife and I have read and shared a devotional from this Dennis Rainey book every night for more than two years. We read one just before turning "lights out." Sometimes we're so exhausted from our days that we read it, mutter something quick, pray something even quicker, and fall asleep. Other times we read it, and it sets us up for an hour long conversation, in which we really get insight into our complementary perspectives.
The insights are important but sometimes I forget them, too. I think the real benefit comes from the process that we have adopted, the habit of ending our day together.
And we have enjoyed Dennis and Barbara Rainey's writings. They are transparent in sharing their lives with their readers, and we have been moved many times by their stories.

An easy way to improve communication and intimacy

Moments Together for Couples is designed to be a "first step" toward better communication. Just 15 minutes a day is enough time to read a scripture passage together, a short essay by the Raineys, and discuss what you read. You'll quickly find that the time went by very quickly, and before you know it, you're spending even more time together.
If you're a woman who works exhaustingly in the home with the kids and the house, you probably long from time to time for meaningful adult conversation. This is a great RX for you.
