Churches That Transform Lives

Buy this book! George Barna always has some interesting insights that will challenge you to think about your church, denomination, or parachurch organization. Besides, his books are among the few resources you can get that are based on scientific research and not hunches.
Borrow this book only if you have everything Barna has written, you go to one of his conferences at least every two years, and you just want to take a quick look at his new book.
The book describes "a ministry as being effective when lives are transformed such that people are constantly enabled to become more Christ-like. Effective ministries foster significant and continual changes in how people live." page 7-8]
Of the nine habits, one of my favorites is that highly effective churches develop significant relationships within the congregation. Significant relationship with God and one another transform lives!
According to Barna, the bar that defines highly effective churches is high. It probably ought to be because too many churches feel that good enough is good enough when mandates of the Kingdom of God may be calling for more.

C. PETER WAGNER, PhD, holds graduate degrees in theology, missiology, and religion from Fuller Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and the University of Southern California. He served as a field missionary in Bolivia for 16 years and he taught on the faculty of the School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller Seminary for 30 years. This book is perfect for those members of the church body who want to help but aren't sure where to begin. It's also perfect for pastors who want to teach on spiritual gifting, and also encourage church members to exercise their spiritual gifts with benefit to the church.
Wagner's writing is succinct, humorous, and clear. This book sheds light not only on different spiritual gifts, but theories surrounding them (the book draws from several lists in the Bible, none of which completely mention every spiritual gift), common misconceptions, as well as a test in the back of the book to help each person begin to get a sense of what his or her spiritual gifts might be.
The book is geared toward using spiritual gifts to help the church grow, and therefore focuses on some spiritual gifts more than others (to my disappointment, the ones barely touched upon seemed more relevant to me than the ones greatly expounded upon -- ah well, another book perhaps). I appreciated Wagner's candor and openness to other scholar's theories about spiritual giftings, as well as his standpoints on misuses of spiritual gifts.
This book is highly recommended as a place to begin your studies on spiritual giftings, especially in the context of gifts within the church body.

A Great Help For Church Leaders

Having taught many seminars over the past seven years on Spiritual Gifts and having helped hundreds of people to find thier unique call to ministry through their giftedness, I found this little book to be a treasure of information. It succinctly describes the value of helping church members discover thier gifts and function out of them, leading to fulfilling and enthusiastic service for the Kingdom of God. Church leaders who have read this book in our setting have stopped looking for just "warm breathing bodies" to fill a position, but instead look for a person whose giftedness qualifies them for it and therefore classic burn-out is kept at a minnimum. Peter Wagner is easy to read and speaks clearly to the lay person.

This book got me hooked on chemistry!

This book is the best book on the elements. It covers ever area that I could think of, from historical background, properties, production, and compounds. The book is so in depth and doesn't miss a thing. It is also beneficial because it gives basic information like atomic weight, boiling point, specific gravity, and oxidation state (and many other things). It just has all the information that you could need. Even for obscure elements no one has ever heard of before, it covers a lot of information. This could be used for personal reference and I would even recommend it for school. Reading it will help better understand the roll of the elements and chemistry in our lives.

A great treasure trove of information

I received this book about four years ago, and it has been one of the best books I have read about the elements. It covers many things from uses, history, specifics, production, and certain important reactions. This is the book that caused me to become interested in chemistry. The author did a great job with every aspect of it. I can't imagine a better book to use to find out the information.

This book is good for doing an Element Project, I has many Information
About Each elements from the Periodic Table. But If I'll be more update it will be better,
because The elements are discovering and there are some new elements. Also if
this book will has some guildlines in which this book was about, it would be better, Since
this book is for 12-up, more guildlines about how to read this book will be very useful to
understand information from the book.

Inspiring Read

I just finished reading this for a paper I have to write for one of my classes. I had no idea starting out what I would think of this book, but the farther I got into it, the more inspired I became. It's truly amazing to see what one woman can accomplish when she's wholly sold out to God and His plan. I recommend this book to anyone who's involved in ministry, or anyone who just wants to be challenged in their walk. Henrietta Mears was an amazing woman whose influence has literally reached around the world. And I feel that too few Christians have heard her story- so if you're not sure whether you want to buy this book and read it, please do! I promise, you will not regret it.

The principles of mentoring are ever the same!

Henrietta Mears has become an icon to teachers and mentors. Those of us in the NEXT generation need leaders with knowledge and wisdom, most certainly, but we must also have the genuine inspiration to pass on that knowledge and wisdom to the generations after us. Henrietta Mears speaks to our heads and our hearts with generous infusions of HOPE. I will ever be grateful to her and her faithfulness in sharing her great vision of TEACHING by word and by life. Thank you, TEACHER.

Henrietta was a woman of substance who held her own in a very male dominant society. Her story is great for anyone in the teaching or mentoring industry because you will gain insight on what it takes to be a determined woman with a vision that is far reaching.

It brought back Memories.

First it started with simple Balsa wood flyers, then they got better as the designs got more complex. Most were flyable, some nose dived as soon as they were let go. With an adjustment or two - it would fly. I spent many hours winding the prop again and again to see what would happen next. With another adjustment, another flight pattern would take place. No two flights were the same. With a better or stronger rubber-band flights would get longer.

History that actually flies.

This is indeed an historic book from the standpoint of model airplane enthusiasts. It isn't helpful to prospective modelers who intend to buy a Ready to Fly Airplane, but it has some wonderful models in its pages. The models are progressively more complex, and require that you buy balsa, glue and a set of tools unique to model airplane building. The models do indeed fly, but the building and flying of them requires patience and the willingness to build, trim and experiment with aerodynamics.
This is also a good book for people who are interested in the history of Model Airplanes how they were built way back when, when people developed a skill set along with building airplanes.
