SPIRITUAL WARFARE: WORLD VIEW AND EXEGESIS

This is not a great book, but it is helpful. C. Peter Wagner is not a biblical exegete nor a thelogian, so some of his work doesn't seem very solid or deep to his more serious readers. Here he takes steps to remedy this problem and to provide a biblical/theological framework for his views on spiritual warfare. The material is not on the same level as Clinton Arnold, but it would be unfair to expect this. I was at times inspired and informed by the book, and a number of passages started me on some serious expeditions of personal study. I would give this book a thumbs up to anyone who is interested in the subject.

Surprised by the focus

As I read this book I was surprised by the focus. Rather than being focused on 'doing' the material seemed more focused on 'being'. The reader will gain valuable perspective on being a person of godly character in order to bless and be a blessing to children. A great book not only for parents but also grandparents, neighbors, childrens workers, etc. Very refreshing perspectives from a great man with an awesome pastor's heart.

One of the Best devotionals books I've read!!!

Today is the First Day is a great addition in the First Place series. I first bought my copy in June of 2002 & each devotion was appropriate for the situation I was dealing with. I truly believe God led me to the book to help me make decisions I needed to make. The devotional is written to go along with the First Place study series, but you don't have to do them to use it. Each week starts with a different memory verse, so if you choose, you can memorize 52 verses of Scripture! I highly recommend this book, you will be so blessed.

If you are going to accompany someone who is dying, get this book!

There are quite a few books out there about death and dying, and I've read most of them. This is one of the very best: clear, compassionate, comprehensive. Chaplain Jacobs draws on her extensive experience as a hospital chaplain working with dying persons to help us all serve dying persons in an informed and open-hearted way. Her chapter titles show how rich this resource is: Why are we afraid to die? Legal issues; Medical issues; Miracles and cures; Our own demons; Preparing for the end of life; Working with congregations; Knowing the options; Focusing on transformation. She has also done a terrific job of research and sets forth a wealth of materials in the Appendices in a concise, easy-to-use fashion. The book is only 164 pages long, and is easily read, but it is huge in content. My main criticism is the title: this book should NOT be limited to clergy but should be read by any intelligent, caring person who wants to be of genuine service to someone who is dying. Strongly recommended.

Best practical guide for spiritual care at end-of-life

I have taught both palliative care & pastoral care courses to health professionals, caregivers and volunteers and have read many books on the topics. This is the best, easy-to-use guide I have seen. It covers all the basics, from communication tips to ethical issues to spiritual concerns. My copy is now full of highlit notations, and I have just ordered 8 more to distribute to volunteer chaplains in the hospital where I work providing spiritual care.
I would highly recommend this book.

It is exactly what it's title says: a guide, filled with practical information rather than theological or theoretical discourse. It is quick and easy to use.
