As a victim/survivor of clergy sexual abuse, I find this book to be instrumental in my healing and vital to my restoration in becoming an overcomer in spite of teriffic odds.

A Great Book!!!

When I read a Christian book I generally look for one of three experiences: to be challenged by good Bible teaching, to learn from someone else's practical experience, or to read an author who can help me to better hear from the Holy Spirit. In Sexual Healing I found all three. The book was more than just information; it was an encounter with the Living God. I liked it so much I read it three times. I also plan to read it again at some time in the future.

David Kyle Foster is a man who has experienced the difficulty of living the Christian life while recovering from severe sexual addiction and homosexuality. He writes heartfelt words based on his experience. Perhaps my favorite part of his book is that although he presents a tremendous amount of excellent information, he also recognizes that only the Holy Spirit can reveal to a person the exact details of their particular problem. This closely matched my experience in recovering from my own issues. Sexual Healing has been a great help to me, and I am sure it will be for many others also.

I like the empathy but don't trust the advice.

This book may be helpful in one way: if you are an evangelical who was molested as a child and you have never dealt with the trauma, you may appreciate this book. However, the advice given here is in direct contradiction with every medical association and even the ex-gay leaders who admitted nobody changed from homosexual to heterosexual. Foster worked for many years as a working girl for gay clients. Today he makes a more lucrative living preaching against LGBT folks. The book is written in a sympathetic style, but I simply think the advice is not what you will get if you go to any professional psychologist or former ex-gay member.

OK for starters.

A good beginner's book for those interested in building their own speakers without getting into heavy mathematics, passive electronics, complex woodworking, or folded horns. The book explains some the rudiments of speaker theory, and barely enough to design your own simple crossover network. The book has several economical projects which the author already debugged and are ready to build, including: the make and model of the speakers, list of passive components, schematic - which usually include extras like a Zobel network, and the cabinet dimensions. Their are several two-way projects and one three-way with a ten-inch woofer. Most designs use a soft-dome tweeter, if that's what you like. There is a list of raw component vendors in the back of the book. The designs for the ported boxes use the Thiel method, and I am finding that this may be conservatively sized toward the large side with respect to a flat bass response. The prose is a bit wordy, but still easy to read. Overall, I have learned a few things from this book.

Thorough introduction - worthless projects

Great introduction to loudspeaker design theory. Very good, in-depth discussion of crossovers with usable equations.
However, the projects and suggested projects aren't worth the paper they're written on. After studying the theories on cabinet and crossover design, and researching available drivers, I don't think many people are going to be interested in using the cheapest crap available for drivers. The projects all use Audax, Peerless, Seas, and Vifa drivers - the worst junk available. The authors themselves state that these drivers deteriorate quickly, and that all the drivers for one particular project can be purchased for seven dollars each! Are you interested in investing all the time required to learn, design and build a set of speakers and then invest $28 in four drivers? I'm certainly not.
The included software Crossover Modeling Program certainly has potential, and are useful for building the low-buck projects in this book. It includes treatment for virtually all the variables available for manipulation by the designer/builder. However, it's DOS based, almost impossible to navigate, only has data files available for the trash drivers used in the project, and, in fact, doesn't even have all the data files for all of those drivers. If they've got data files for good drivers like Focal, Eton, or even Dynaudio available on a web site or something, the program would be VERY USEFULL. And it is still usefull for modeling the crossover, but without linking in the driver specs, it's guesswork as to how the response curves are going to come out, let alone the actual speaker performance.
It's amazing to me that the authors give such a good treatment to everything, go to all the trouble of developing a good modeling program, and then build garbage. You're going to have more invested in this book than you will in the speaker projects themselves. They even go into buying and/or building fairly sophisticated test equipment - for what? To test your $15 driver? After discussing all the advanced considerations, the projects use surface-mounted drivers with defractions rings instead of routing out the cabintes to flush-mount the drivers. Are you going to put the hundreds of hours into a project and then forego the extra few minutes to properly rout out the driver openings? I'm not!!
Another serious shortcoming is that all the test data only goes down to 200 hertz, and almost all the response curves show a 3+ decibel rise in the 200-500 hz range. Well hey, bass response is where the going gets tough! But it makes the low-dollar, two- way, 5-6" 'woofer' projects look acceptable. The three-way projects are also a joke since the 'woofers' are still only 6.5". Believe me, there is going to be NO appreciable bass response at any significant volume level with ANY of these projects, and who wants to be crossing over to a subwoofer at 200 hz. I like 60-80 hz much better. And I'm not interested in having a system where a 5-6" driver is resonsible for handling everything from 3000 Hz on down - approximately seven octaves!
I DO RECOMMEND buying this book - and then tearing out everything after page 165 .

Disappointing after initial promise

If you are only interested in "spoonfed" recipe loudspeaker designs, this book will be great for you. It does cover some important theory initially and has some very clear and succinct illustrations, but I felt that it was a let down of my expectations, especially if you pay too much attention to things like the cover illustration (way too "hi-end" and complex for this book!).
Speaker building can easily become an addictive and engaging hobbie, and if you think at all that you may want more than a "casual glance" I'd strongly recommend "LOUDSPEAKER DESIGN COOKBOOK" by Vance Dickason instead. It may seem to be a more technical book but it has "staying power" and is a longer term reference text that the Weems/Koonce book.
On the positive side, if you do lack the time, inclination or confidence to get into the "nitty gritty", this book does have projects that feature relatively simple enclosure construction, require readily available (and not too expensive) speaker drivers and components and it has choice in terms of scale, complexity (to an extent) etc in the projects.

Wonderful Guidance for Counselors

I was so impressed with Dr. Wright's Trauma and Crisis Counseling. I am a counselor and I also recently lost one of my sons. I have purchased a number of books on the topic of Christian counseling. Norman Wright's book is the best. The pointed descriptions of crisis, trauma and loss contained in the book could have only been penned by a writer who has been there. Dr. wright clearly has! His uncensored, honest description of crisis, trauma and grief unencunbered by mispoken biblical rhetoric that pushes you to "get over it and be happy," helped to make me a better Christian counselor. At the same time, Wright is biblical knowledgeable and generously shares compassionate scripture that may speak to your authentic, deep sorrow and even spiritual doubts. I found this honesty to be a source of comfort and an unexpected path back to my faith which I felt like I was losing.

Crisis 101

Dr. Norman Write has again produced a book as comprehensive as any college level text book on dealing with life and death crisis. This book is of special interest to first responder peer support teams, chaplains, hospital crisis teams and others who deal with death and other traumatic circumstances. I especially appreciate the special consideration given to children, adolescents, and Biblical princlples.

I found this book to be very informative. Though not an exhaustive treatment of crisis cases the coverage is adequate and the author is easy to read and understand. Gives you a basic understanding and points you in a scriptural direction for helping those involved in crises.

Dr. Chuck D. Pierce is President of Glory of Zion International and Vice-President of Global Harvest Ministries. He is the former director of the World Prayer Center and coauthor of the books Possessing Your Inheritance, Ridding Your Home of Spiritual Darkness, and The Best IsYet Ahead. Chuck, his wife, Pam, and their five children live in Denton, Texas. Rebecca Wagner Sytsema is coauthor of the books Possessing Your Inheritance, Ridding Your Home of Spiritual Darkness and Commitment to Conquer. She lives with her husband, Jack, and their two children in Colorado Springs.

Apostles and Prophets Arise

Chuck Pierce is a voice crying out in the wilderness, "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord."
There is a prophetic voice emerging out of mainline Christianity today and Chuck Pierce is one of those Prophets. He captures, in one volumn, the heart of God and what Christ is doing in the hearts of this generation in preparation for His soon return.
Chuck Pierce opens a window into the Spiritual realm easily understood by anyone. He speaks of intercessory warfare and explains God's strategy in tearing down strongholds of the enemy.

He talks about and explains the coming Apostolic Church Government and the raising up of Prophets who will and are admonishing us to prepare our hearts before God.
Chuck Pierce has defined in depth what God means in His Commandment to 'Love God first with your whole heart and soul, and your NEIGHBOR as yourself.' Jesus Christ longs to share the fire of His love with us. Embrasing Him intimately is key to our growing up in Him.
Chuck Pierce shows us the way. One small paragraph sums up the whole of his prophetic message here:
"As we learn to operate in our gifts, the Body of Christ will function as it was meant to. No demonic force, including lawlessness, will be able to stand against a fully functioning Body of Christ. Operating properly in the gifts will lead us back to love (1 Cor. 13:1010), where we can work together according to the heart of God." (Page 203-204).

Dreams vs. Word

Now, I respect Dutch Sheets, and since he has ministered with Chuck Pierce, I have given Chuck the benefit of the doubt since he seems to meet with Dutch's approval; however, I was not interested in reading about Chuck's dreams and then interpretations of those dreams, which is basically what this book is all about.

Now perhaps, as dreams are the means which many prophet's receive from the Lord, it seems to me, unless one is the John the apostle, relating all the details of the dream is a little bit superfluous for most folks. I get that God talks in dreams at times, and to His prophets in dreams at times. However, re-telling all the dream details doesn't really excite me. Just get to the point, if possible, of what is thought to be the interpretation, and then get to the point of what the application is to your readers lives. If those points were made in this book, I have long since forgotten them from when I first read this book and found the endless detail of the dreams too much information for me to digest and then sift through what may have been the really important stuff in there.

I think it says somewhere in the bible, let someone tell their dreams, but let him who has the Word of God speak as well. The body needs clear direction, clear vision from above. To whatever extent a dream is blurring, and unclear, it fails to serve it's purpose, if it's doesn't get translated into a Word which can be acted upon in faith. If anything, the prophets need to give clear Words, or go into their closets until what is unclear becomes explained.

I cannot recommend this book.

AWAKE Church!

AWAKE!

The cry of Chuck Pierce book, The Future War of the Church is for the Church to awake! While I am a quick reader, I was still surprised last night I read this 300 page book in full. I could not put it down because in it is an urgent message for members of the body of Christ, particularly those who are still finding God asking them to align and not abandon the local church - even if the local church has abandoned them. Originally written in 2001 prior to 9/11 (and revised/updated/re-released in 2007) the prophetic words are rich with punctuation now of how the Spirit of God is supplying the ministry and message given to Chuck Pierce and Rebecca Wagner Sytsema.

We, the Church, the Body of Christ, must not run and hide, nor fearfully reject the non-traditionalism move of the Holy Spirit. That which we don't understand, can still be quite grounded in the Word of God. The Church NEEDS its gifted apostles and prophets just as much as it needs its pastors, teachers and evangelists! Who is man, apart of the Spirit, to determine what is of God and what is not? Is not that the office of the Holy Spirit to confirm or deny a moving of God? Too long has the members of Christ who are gifted in Apostolic and Prophetic ministries been sidelined, removed, stripped of authority, and denied access to the local church.

What are We afraid of - that the Spirit of God might take control of equipping His people for the work of the ministry? Is it that leaders in churches do not want to see God's power distributed freely as He chooses, in the manner He decides, in the timing He ordains, in the way He designs, through the vessels He deems? Is the controlling spirit so strong in the halls and office of pastoral staff? Are they afraid God might call them to serve and minister to the very disciples of Jesus that are not contained by tradition and conditioned by seminary schooling, and therefore not rendered controllable by administrators or executives of the hierarchal norm found in the majority of denominational churches?

God has a plan! He is preparing new wineskin! God is on the move! We either join Him or we quench His Spirit to empower and release supernatural ability to harvest the lost and captive to the father of this world. Since we don't fight against flesh and blood, why do churches attempt to lead in it! The Future of the Church and its powerful role to defeat lawlessness and to bring God's order to the earth depends on our readiness. This is War! We must be disciplined in the ways of spiritual battle. The fight against darkness has its key focus on prayer for standing strong in the very real battle that we are already surrounded by. Is the Church willing to be used? Are you positioning yourself to be prepared for the day God calls you to "Fear not, and tread forth!"? Is this is your heart-cry? If so, read this book by Chuck Pierce and Rebecca Wagner Sytsema and awaken your mind and spirit to God.
