La verdad tenía muchas expectativas con la lectura de este libro, pero no fueron llenadas, no me gustó que la mitad del libro se dedicara a la historia (no bíblica por cierto) del humor, realmente no enseña (desde mi visión personal) el "cómo" usar el humor en el ministerio. Aún así tomé algunos principios aplicables a mi labor.

We are often compelled to maintain high walls to protect our frail emotions. The power of honor to open the door to genuine relationship, heal broken hearts and provide comfort in the business of our lives is a beacon of hope.

Creative, Funny, Insightful Look at Biblical Leadership

For his first book, Lepine tackles a tough topic almost as easily as Tiger Woods' first weekend at Augusta. With heavy doses of humor and an appropriate number of real-life stories, this life long broadcaster makes his point effectively: for a man to be successful in God's eyes as a husband, he must be a corageous leader spiritually and organizationally in the home.
Other books on manhood that I've read--Tender Warrior, The Masculine Journey, etc.--cover all of the male struggle. Lepine's book actually sticks to what it means to be a husband. I appreciate the focus.
His standards are high--calling to mind John Calvin is a tall order. I appreciate his honesty and the personal stories--Lepine is real, not made up.
My favorite aspect of the book is how Lepine moves from umbrella principle, to biblical support, to illustration, to (finally) personal application. He doesn't insult my intelligence with his application points; he calls me up short. I'm glad there's comic relief amid the moans.
If there's a weak point to the book (other than the dreadful cover), it's the section on the husband as "prophet." I have trouble connecting with the principle.
I've run across a somewhat self-published study guide as well.

A great book for those that are interestd in building their own computer controlled GOTO type telescope. Instructions for building a reflector on a horseshoe mount with a commodore 64 computer. The book has all hardware, software listings, and other required data. I foundmy copy in a used bookstore and highly recommend it. The technology for the computer is a bit outdated but still highly applicable for design it yourself efforts and transportable to todays computers.

While Christian Education Director at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, she built one of the largest Sunday Schools in the world and wrote curriculum that was in such high demand that to publish it, she founded Gospel Light in 1933. Know the context

I am a firm believer that reading, memorizing and studying Scripture is best done in context. It helps me tremendously to be familiar with who the author is, when the book was written and a little background on where and why it was written. What the Bible is All About answers these questions plus many more. Now, when I begin to study a specific book in the Bible or simply want a little background on a passage I'm reading, I turn to this book as a complementary tool. I highly recommend it as an addition to any Believer's library!

On Grief and Grace

When I lost my baby in the 1980's no one was talking about the grief of this kind of loss. People said the most uncaring insensitive things - I'd have another one, God needed another angel, and all sorts of ridiculous things. This book has sound theology, and explains what BIBLICAL teachings are about the soul of a baby. Further, it explores a concept many Christians seem to misunderstand - GRACE. In addition to miscarriages and still births, this book addresses abortion. Parents who have lost a baby to an abortion deal with the loss, and the guilt of their decision as well. This is a wonderful book about both the grief and the grace of God and His love for all of us. Most of all, it gives parents who have suffered the loss of a baby hope that they will, indeed, hold their child in heaven.
