WOW! What a great book on prayer!

Pastor Ted's book on prayer is awesome! I am using it for a prayer retreat for my youth group. It clearly outlines the need for prayer in daily life and gives great examples of how our prayers can change our lives. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone, new Christians and mature ones. Pastor Ted touches on everything from being filled with the Holy Spirit in prayer to Spiritual Warfare. This book has something for everyone.

Readings from the Perspective of Earth (Earth Bible, vol 1)

The Earth Bible Series represents a daring and timely new interpretive approach: listening and responding to Bible texts from the standpoint of Earth. This first volume in the series, with a foreword by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, explains the six "ecojustice principles" that underly the approach and contains 14 chapters by an international team of biblical scholars that illustrate how Earth-centered readings can yield interesting and challenging new perspectives on selected Bible texts. The selected texts represent the books of Psalms, Amos, Jeremiah, Tobit, Wisdom of Solomon, Matthew, Luke, Romans, 1 Timothy, Hebrews, and Revelation. Some results: Terence Fretheim's retelling of the Earth story in Jeremiah 12 leads to an increased appreciation of Earth's central place in the creation theology of the Hebrew Bible. Keith Carley's reading of Psalm 8, by contrast, shows how a biblical text can downplay and devalue Earth so that Earth might want to offer its own counter-Psalm in response! Vicky Babalanski offers an Earth-reading of the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6 which shows how the prayer focuses on God's kingdom on Earth in such a way that the present time (not just the future) may be an arena for new life-giving possibilities. About the Author
CHRIS HAYWARD is the president of Cleansing Stream Ministries, an organization dedicated to equipping local churches for biblically balanced, sound and effective healing and deliverance ministry. Before his time with Cleansing Stream Ministries, Chris was the founding pastor at Christian Fellowship Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois for 12 years, and has served in pastoral ministry for over 24 years. He currently makes his home in Castaic, California, with his wife, Karen. They have three children and two grandchildren.

Highly recommend this book

Cleansing Stream Ministry has changed my life more than anything I've encountered since becoming a born-again believer. I have been set free from overwhelming fear, rejection, abandonment, and shame. I just finished reading Chris Hayward's book, and it did a wonderful job of explaining how Cleansing Stream is designed to work in the local church. It would be especially helpful for pastors to read if they are considering getting involved, but good for any believer who just can't shake those things hanging on from their past.
As for the bad review by another "reader" (I don't think they read the book): As you go through the Cleansing Stream study, you pay for your study materials. You pay another fee to cover the expenses of the retreat. Then, at the retreat, you are given the opportunity to give an offering (no pressure!) to help take this ministry around the world (even into prisons). Most people have been so affected by going through this process, they can't wait to help the ministry take this to others, and get involved themselves. I highly recommend the book and the ministry. If you could hear the testimonies, you would have no doubt that God is using this ministry to set His people free.

Much needed info

Deliverence is a much needed though much misunderstood ministry.I have seen it administered in many different ways over the years and never has it made so much sense. Cleansing Stream Ministries is Bible based and as gentle and loving as you can imagine. God has used (and is still using) this ministry to set me free to do the work He has called me to do. By keeping the ministry under the leadership of local pastors Chris Hayword honors God while keeping the ministry (and ministers) highly accountable. I reccommend that you not only buy and read this book, you should also buy a copy for your pastor.

Great Discription of God's plan for deliverance.

I would recommend this book to every pastor and person who wants to see others set free from the things that have held them back from living a successful life.
This book explains clearly what Cleansing Stream Ministries is and how it works in the church to bring freedom to everyone who desires freedom.
A must for every pastor!

About the Author
Rudolf F. Graf has 45 years of engineering, sales, and marketing experience in the electronics field. He has written more than 30 books (about three million copies printed)and well over 100 articles. He is a senior member of the IEEE, a licensed amateur radio operator (KA2CWL), and has a BSEE degree from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and an MBA from NYU. He is self-employed.

William Sheets is a self-employed circuit design engineer. He has more than 25 years of experience in RF, analog, and digital electronics. He has written numerous articles in electronics publications and co-authored five books with Graf. His interests include amateur radio (K2MQJ), photography, and travel. He has designed and built numerous items, including a satellite TV system, many transmitters and receivers, and a computer. He has an MEE degree from NYU, is married, and lives in up-state New York.

Does not live up to it's claims

Poorly organized, redundant, too many errors to list, Graf and Sheets claim to be knowledgeable but this is not apparent under close examination - best listed as a "find the errors" puzzle book. A great many useful circuits are presented here, but should not by any means be considered the last word for any design. Overpriced for the amount of headaches this can bring. Once you've spotted hundreds of blatent errors, and dozens of subtle, critical errors, one hesitates to trust anything in this book. The same can be said for the other volumes of this series. My personal opinion only; perhaps I'm either brain-damaged or more aware than the average reviewer or reader..

Lots of Circuits, But....

This series of books (7 volumes in all) contain a lot of circuits from a variety of sources. Some pertinent notes:

1. The first volume was published in 1985 and the last volume in 1999. The joke in the electronics industry is that 5 years is one 'forever'. Hence, the oldest volume is five 'forevers' old and the latest volume is two 'forevers' old. Expect to see circuits with obsolete parts and don't expect to see 'leading edge' anything.

2. The author has assembled an anthology of circuits from a variety of sources: hobby magazines, semiconductor application notes, and, I suspect a soiled napkin here and there with some scribblings in grease pencil. The circuits are copied verbatim from their sources--there was no attempt to harmonize either the schematics into a consistent style or rationalize the supporting commentary. Some circuits are modestly blessed with explantory detail and some are not (and I mean absolutely not). The completeness and perhaps even accuracy will vary from page to page.

3. The circuits aren't particuarly complex. You will be hard pressed to find anything in the book with more than a handful of ICs and transistors--and many of the circuits are pretty trivial.

So, who would benefit from the collection?

--- Someone who is really interested in electronics but lacks practical experience. You can glean some useful ideas and techniques by observing how others have implemented specific circuits.

--- Someone who doesn't need a lot of hand holding. If you need COMPLETE and ACCURATE information on whatever you build--this probably isn't a good book for you. No disrespect intended -- we all started as rank novices -- but if you can't extrapolate some details and substitute ancient devices for something more 'this millenium' then you will be frustrated with these volumes.

--- Someone willing to hunt for a bargain. I purchased the first four volumes in the series "used" for an average price under $4/book. For that level of outlay, I can scan through these anthologies, get an idea or two and not feel bad about the experience. I am currently wrestling with the conundrum about the last three volumes that are still selling for 'real' dollars.

somewhat disappointed in this book

I was somewhat disappointed in this book. I guess it was different that I expected. I was expecting Carole Lewis to be more specific about how she loses weight. She had some good ideas but needed to expand on them more for clarity. I would not recommend this book. It is too shallow. Even her journal examples were brief and didn't really say much about her ongoing experience of trying to lose weight.

I read the reviews and had some idea what to expect. The book doesn't have much detail as some of the reviews said. If you are familiar with First Place for Health it will feel very similar. Overall I liked the concept of focusing for a shorter period of time.
