Great resource

We needed a resource for some quick, one shot, messages,that didn't need a lot of prep time.

We have used many of the outlines as is and others as a starting point and then revised as needed to fit our group.

It's easy follow and gives several biblical references for the message.

Great curriculium for the price!

We had curriculum in our church that WASN'T working at the time. We switched to this program and everybody loved it. The kids were learning, and the parents were pleased. In addition there isn't much work required to prepare the lessons. This kit has 52 lessons where you teach the entire Bible from Genesis to the New Testament. Each lesson has a Bible lesson, object lesson, a game, a craft, and music. Plus you get a book of coloring pages, another book of Bible puzzles (for older kids), and a book of Bible skits. And you also get a teaching picture to use with every lesson. There's a lot here for your money.
We recently went to another church, where we introduced this same curriculum, and the kids loved it here as well. Easy to teach. This curriculum works well for Sunday morning or a mid-week service. Can't say enough good things about it.

Old But Functional

I work in a small church and we were looking for a Wednesday night program for our kids. This kit included everything we needed for our plans. It was published in 1999, so its graphics are dated. It has the format of utilizing stations. Each station has realistic expectations for a volunteer in a regular church to fulfill. The lessons are solid and dependable. The activities are fun and loved by the kids. The only thing that is lacking is that it is for grades 1-6 and some activities are either too old for the 1st graders or else far beneath the maturity of a 6th grader. In small churches we are used to making adjustments, so this is easily remedied. But if you are in a situation where financially you are able to make more age-specific purchases, you might want to pass on this kit.

A Must Read

I was absolutely captured as I read this book. The first two chapters were so informative and inspiring. We have ordered several copies for our Women's Ministry to read snd share at our meetings with our younger women who are lured by our society. The impression that outward beauty is what life is all about has our teens and young adults misguided. God looks at what no one else can see, the inner woman's beauty. A must read for all women and soon to be.

Meaure of a Woman

This book helps us women who struggle with the world's way vs. God's way. It helps you identify your value to God and how you can develop your good traits to be the wife, mother, and Godly woman that you truly are. I am a stay at home mom and I struggle with the stereo type of what women in "today's world" should be doing. This book reitterates the value of yourself and God's design for a woman, even the stay at home woman. If you're down because of pressures from friends, family, husband, or just life in general, this is a book that will lift those pressures.

This Book Delivers

I felt this book gave a clear understanding of the components that were listed. It wasn't too bogged down with technical jargon that you couldn't understand what was being written about the components. For me, this book provided valuable information that has helped me in my understanding components better than I did before I purchased and read the book. An example, for instance, was a drawing on an 8-pin opamp that I had been trying to find out what each pins function was. The drawing was clear, and defined each opamp pin with definitions. This was very helpful and useful in my analog electronics circuit building. Personally, I felt like the book was well worth the money. And now, I would not be without it in my library.

Not a reference, and not an introductory text

The book's subtitle is "A Complete Reference for Project Builders". It should be "A Glossing Over for People Who Already Know About Electronics".
The first half of the book is an (incomplete) in-depth explanation about electricity, resistance, capacitance, and inductance. The next 75 pages cover semiconductors, going in-depth about junctions then diodes, then glossing over the various transistor types.
The last third of the book is a thorough glossing over of various ICs, transducers, and 10 pages on switches.
In other words, don't get this book if you're a beginner, because you will be confused by what it leaves out. Don't get this book if you are looking for a reference, because you will be frustrated by what it leaves out. And don't get it if you are looking for a refresher on electronics theory, as you will be dissatisfied with it's overly simplistic explanations.

About the Author
OS HILLMAN formerly owned and operated an ad agency for 12 years, serving clients such as American Express and Steinway & Sons pianos. Today he is founder and president of Marketplace Leaders, an organization whose purpose is to help men and women fulfill their God-ordained calling in and through their work life. He is also president of the International Coalition of Workplace Ministries (ICWM) and Aslan Group Publishing, and directs an online website called faithandworkresources.com. Os is an internationally recognized speaker on the subject of faith and work, speaks to business groups and churches, and writes on various faith and work-related subjects. He is a faculty member of the Wagner Leadership Institute on Workplace Ministry. Os writes a daily Internet devotional entitled TGIF Today God Is First that is read daily by several hundred thousand people worldwide. He has authored ten books, including The Faith and Work Movement: What Every Pastor and Church Leader Should Know, TGIF Today God Is First, The 9 to 5 Window and The Upside of Adversity, and teaches leadership workshops entitled Called to the Workplace. Os attended the University of South Carolina, is married to Angie and has one daughter, Charis. Os and Angie live in Cumming, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.

Life Transformation Monday thru Friday

Os Hillman's book, The 9 to 5 Window, is a must-read for anyone serving in the workplace who desires to see the Almighty work in the lives of those around them. Os does a magnificent job of presenting what needs to take place in us so that we are transformed and then can be agents of God in His transformation of others. In humility, Os brings to life the Almighty's work in him and in his wife, as well many other testimonies the world over where life transformation is taking place. A great book for individual or group study.

Principles and Practices for those Called to the Workplace

The 9 to 5 Window is a passionate and well-written book that encourages Christians to serve God wholeheartedly where they spend most of their time - in the marketplace. It offers powerful encouragement to those longing for purpose and spiritual significance in their job. The title of the book involves a reference to a well known mission field, the 10/40 window (degrees latitude north of the equator) which contains the greatest population of non-Christians in the world. The way Hillman looks at it, the marketplace throughout the world is an important field for Kingdom work which is too often ignored. He includes a 10-pg study guide at the end.

The book is divided into two parts. Part I, Understanding the Will of God, talks about the relationship between God and the Workplace, our role in the marketplace in general, and understanding your unique purpose in life. Hillman covers both God's perspective and purpose in bringing the Kingdom to the Workplace, but also the perspective from our level - Christians too often relegated to feeling second-class in our service to God. In Part II, Bringing God's Power into Your Workplace, Hillman passionately shares about the power available for Christians in the workplace who listen for and hear the voice of God, who pray in intercession and who expect God's power to be at work. (Note that Part II will be of greatest interest for those with a charismatic background; others may strongly prefer Part I.) Those sensing a calling to minister within the workplace and who want to see God's power at work there will be encouraged and well advised by reading The 9 to 5 Window.

Challenging. Thought provoking. Visionary. Hopeful.

A "must" for therapists and pastoral care providers alike, Navigating the Deep River challenges institutionalized, constrained, individualistic models of care. Professor Smith encourages us to explore the systemic dimensions of the therapeutic task and to consider seriously broad strategies for transformation. He reminds us of the hopefulness embedded in an African American spirituality rooted in the traditions and legacies of black history, a spirituality that holds great power to sustain and offer hope but which often is trivialized or ignored by the therapeutic community. While not naive about the church's ability to alienate and oppress, a strong ecclesiology undergirds the author's thinking.
Through a three dimensional model of agency, reflexivity, and depth of meaning the author forms new understandings of interventions and their potentialities. Questions formulated for both therapist and client guide the process. The volume is punctuated w! ith vignettes from Dr. Smith's life, compelling case studies from his practice, biblical study that instructs and inspires, ancient and contemporary words of prophets. These narratives and insights are couched in the metaphor of the river, a rich cultural and theological symbol in African American communities past and present. The nature of the metaphor allows for plural and intriguing, sometimes paradoxical, meanings to emerge. The water represents the raging and oft oppressive American mainstream. At the same time, water symbolizes a holy agent of transformation and hope. The hope evidenced in this volume is not facile; it is deeply rooted in the personal and painful realities of discrimination and invisibility to which this book gives witness.
How can therapists be trained so that they are encouraged to help shatter and humanize oppressive social structures, to stem the rising tides of despair? Are our therapeutic practices far too limited for our multi-cultura! l contexts? Are we prone in our practice to underestimate ! the debilitating and continuing effects of racist attitude and practice? Are we aware of our own? Navigating the Deep River is an enlightening and unsettling read; it invites us to ask these questions and to travel through uncharted waters for answers.

Well written, accessible overview of New Testament prophecy!

I enjoy Cindy Jacob's writing for two reasons. One, she has the personal experiences, (Both good and bad!) so she knows what she's writing about, and she is so "down home" in her writing style--as though Dolly Parton went to Seminary... She is very good at sharing her wisdom, referring the reader to other authoritative sources, and helping you to get a handle on some pretty deep spiritual principles. I appreciate her alot. Reading this book has inspired me (in the literal sense of the word) to pray and seek God more and more.

Excellent Bible survey volume for young people

I have been teaching through this book with my Sunday School class (students of grades 6-8). Even though these students have mostly been in Sunday School and exposed to Bible study all their lives, they did not really have a clear sense of the various divisions of the Bible, the timeline, the geography, etc. They knew the main stories and the main characters, but they were quite unclear about how everything fits together.
So I decided to spend a few quarters (of time, not of money) in a systematic overview of the whole Bible. I already had a copy of this book, or rather my daughter did, and it looked like it might work out for this, so I tried it.
We have just completed our study of the Old Testament and are about to begin on the New. The book is great. There is a chapter corresponding to each book of the Bible plus a couple of additional chapters, such as one which discusses the history of Bible lands during the time between the Testaments. Each chapter contains material describing what is known about the time, authorship, and purpose of the book. An overview is followed by more detailed material. There are lots of graphics: timelines, maps, illustrations, color photos. The material is accessible to students of this age without being condescending. It has kept the interest of my students (and of me.) And it has fulfilled my purpose of giving them a good overview of the big picture.
The theological stance of the book is moderately conservative Protestant. It takes conservative positions on issues such as authorship and dates. It does not, however, delve into theological distinctives but concentrates on introducing the students to the Bible to facilitate their reading it for themselves. So parents and church workers of many denominations should feel comfortable in using it with their children.

Invaluable resource for the student as well as the teacher!

I can't say enough good things about this book! I have purchased it twice for each student in my Bible classes at our congregation. (5/6th grade level). I use it in my preparations to teach and since it is reproducible for that use, find it to be invaluable. I disagree doctrinally with some of the teaching in it (Calvinistic teachings) but for helping others to understand the books of the Bible and its chronology, it is wonderful. There are maps and charts as well as a good dictionary in the back of the book. Get it for your children AND yourself!
