Vashti M. Mckenzie is the first female bishop elected in the 213-year history of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. McKenzie holds a M.Div. from Howard University School of Divinity and a D.Min. from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.

Not Without a Struggle: Leadership for African American Women in Ministry

Wonderful book! Bishop McKenzie is an inspiration and a wonderful ministerial advocate for Christ and women ministers. The book gives great background about women in ministry from a biblical standpoint as well as a historical one. It is exciting to have this book for my ministry class and for my own library. I have followed Bishop McKenzie for a long time and this book really lets you in on her struggle.
