About the Author

H. NORMAN WRIGHT is a grief and trauma therapist and a licensed marriage, family and child therapist who was in private practice for more than 40 years. He is currently the Research Professor of Christian Education at Talbot School of Theology, where he has taught graduate students in counseling and psychology for four decades. He has authored more than 80 books, including the bestsellers Always Daddy's Girl and Communication Key to Your Marriage. He has twoice received the Gold Medallion Award.

Looking for structure is your relationship?

I was very impressed with this book. If you are in a relationship, just got out of one, or looking for ways to make your future relationship better than your last, this book is a great read. If you are in a seriuos relationship, this book is great to go over with your mate, to make sure the both of you right right for eachother. This book is also great because you can also see your flaws, so you can pray to God and work on them. If you want to have a healthy, balanced relationship, read this book!!!

I just picked up this book to browse through it. I have been married for 25 years and I have children 18 and 21. I was interested in this book for them. I was very impressed with the content and how practical it is. In particular, he has one of the best descriptions of the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships..."It's not a good sign"...things that occur in relationships that are missed unless you know to look for them (we see what we know to see). I also like his description of infatuation vs. love. "Infatuation could lead you to do things you might regret...Love won't".

If its an ex library copy then say so in the description

The book arrived in a fairly timely manner, but I was completely surprised that it is an ex library copy, as I have no way at all of telling how the seller came into possession of this book. It is not stamped "discard" or anything similar. I feel very uncomfortable buying from sellers who misrepresent such material facts about their product. The book itself looks very useful, but I will never do business with this seller again....omission is as bad as comission.

About the Author
JOHN WOODEN was a high school and college coach for 40 years. During that time, his teams won more than 80 percent of their games. From 1948 to 1975, his UCLA Bruin teams claimed 10 NCAA national championships, including 7 in a row, and at one time won 88 consecutive games. Wooden is in the Basketball Hall of Fame both as a player and a coach. He originated the Pyramid of Success and is the coauthor with Jay Carty of the recent best-seller Coach Wooden One-on-One. Coach and his wife, Nellie, were married 53 years when she passed away in 1985. He currently lives in Southern California and, at 90-plus years of age, continues to lecture across the country.  JAY CARTY  has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, coached basketball at his alma mater, Oregon State, and been a part of John Wooden’s UCLA coaching staff. After hanging up his basketball shoes, Carty entered ministry. For 25 years he has been a traveling preacher and has written seven books, including Counter-attack and Playing with Fire. Jay and his wife, Mary, live in Santa Barbara, California.

The Man and His Pyramid

I am a long-time fan and admirer of the late, legendary Coach John Wooden, and his famous Pyramid of Success. I read this book wanting to learn more about both the man and the Pyramid. The book did teach me about both, but my education was a bit diluted by the execution of the authors' best intentions.

The book was logically organized around the Pyramid's fifteen building blocks and its ten mortar qualities (the mortar that holds the building blocks together). A four-page chapter was dedicated to each of the building blocks and mortar qualities. Coach Wooden was a very spiritual man, and he helped inspire my own budding spirituality. In this book, I expected to read about how his spirituality influenced his Pyramid. However, the book was much more Bible-focused than I expected. I found too many Bible passages too long (I printed all the cited passages in seventy-three pages!) and disconnected from their chapter topic. Fewer, shorter, and more focused/more easily understood Bible passages would have been much more effective in complementing the authors' preceding insights.

I am sure many people will find the book's content properly balanced, and appropriate for their expectations. As much as it pains me to say something less than stellar about Coach Wooden's work, I was disappointed with this book. Overall, I would still recommend it for anyone wanting deeper insights into Coach Wooden and his Pyramid of Success.

The author coached under Wooden and therefore knew the man and the foundation of his pyramid. Christian faith aside, this book would benefit anyone seeking to live a better, more successful life. The fundamental principles are timeless, unlike the shifting values of our popular culture. Stop wavering in uncertainty and aimlessness and discover and apply the fundamentals presented by the master, coach Wooden!

not what i expected. i am a huge john wooden fan and have read several of his books. there was to much religion. i know it is fundamental to wooden but not my cup of tea. there are other books that focus on his principals with out the overtones.

Keep This Book Handy

"Mad, Sad, or just Totally Confused" is one of those books you won't read in a day or even a week. You won't want to breeze through Ms. Waggoner's honest, unapologetic advice and set the book aside; rather, this is one for the backpack, the top desk drawer, even under the mattress. You'll need these candid stories, thoughts and prayers at your disposal--when you find yourself down and discouraged, "Prayers" delivers legitimate dialogue on tough issues. Don't expect Ms. Waggoner to shy away or bandy out an easy answer. Her voice is strong and self-assured while at the same time stressing that it's okay to be real and vulnerable. Her book meets teens where they are, not where their elders think they are or should be. "Prayers" should be added to any teen's library of essentials--somewhere between the study Bible and the issues of "Seventeen." It's that pertinent and that useful.

A Wonderful Resource

Brittany Waggoner talks to teens about tackling life's toughest issues with hope, faith, and courage. Waggoner's approach is real, warm, and down-to-earth. She never gets preachy. She doesn't resort to pat answers and time-worn cliches. Instead, she shares from her heart the hope that she has found in Christ. The book also includes "Prayer Starters" -- thought-provoking questions and journaling tips that will help teens make a practical application of the Scriptural truths presented in the text.

It's the perfect book for the issues with which young adults struggle. A load of truth in prayer

Many have come to realize that prayer when whole-heartedly mobilized can affect every aspect of life. As you complete reading each testimony in this book, you can't help realizing the multitudes that are still living under the shadow of malevolent manipulation. Thank God, heaven has hope for such victims. God has his own way of changing situations by releasing a weight of burden and compassion upon his people's heart. This change is being activated in the season of intercession which we are now living.
Intercessory prayers are meant to change the speed of prayer from mediocrity to offensive. The overall mission is to seek wholesome freedom by dislodging stubborn "habitants" from their illegal occupancy in our communities. Have you seen a city lurched from snail pace to fast expanding growth? Have you witnessed the countenance of a community being gloriously transformed? This book gives you an insight. In it, there are empirical evidences revealing prayer has altered the characteristic of cities, towns or communities.
However some of the experiences related in this book can be quite a shocking truth especially to those who are not aware of the presence of spiritual vestibules through which the emissaries of darkness can gain legal entrance. Nevertheless, it was the wonderful endings that have given me joyful hope.
I have come to know that spiritual enslavement can be aborted without consent. Prayer can release life-changing penetration even in the darkest corners of life.
Peter's research have also made me discovered the need for intelligent prayer. It is basically made up of three important underpinnings - ability to discern the Voice of God, reliable info. materials and prayer principles. However prayer itself is a journey of exploitation. Prayer cannot be understood from theological perspective, it has to be discovered through the rugged path of experience.
Through this book I have also realized that we must not neglect quality character. Testimonies often major on glorious results but hardly on the character of persistency that is most needed in prevailing prayer. If impatience overrides persistency, this is one of the reasons why prayer becomes artificial.
This book is easily crowned as the best among all the prayer series. Peter has adopted a simplicity style of words in order to relate God's heart to his readers. Although the subject on the power of prayer emblazoned most of the chapters, the author has brought a far more important message across to us, that is God still wants to share his breakthrough plans with man. The conclusive victory in the testimonies shared in this book reinforces the fact that prayer is actually an intimate collaboration between God and His people.
How wonderful! "Praying with Power" stretches the ability of man to believe in almost anything in the realm of the faith and obedience in which God can use to defy the impossible affairs of man.

Praying With Power Is More Fluff Than Faith

Whereas Wagner's premise is sound, prayer in general and its need in the Christian believer's life, his evidential and biblical support are highly lacking. As the book introduces itself and Wagner to the reader, one finds that this book is primarily a synopsis of the first five books in this series. Only two areas are new to the reader, and Wanger does not spend much time on either one. The examples Wagner uses in the book have no credible witnesses outside of themselves, and in some cases one person uses another to validate their story, and then the second person uses the first person to validate their story. Wagner makes three very obvious biblical blunders by using scripture out of context. In one instance he misses the entire point of the biblical reference he cites. This book does contain sound perspectives on the necessity of prayer in the church body as a whole, and also gives many fine examples of how important prayer is for the Christian believer. However, the overall lack of sound biblical proof and background evidence causes this book to lack the punch Wagner would hope for in a book of this importance.

"Praying with Power" is definitely a powerful book. It is full of life changing ideas on how to pray, who to pray for, what to pray for, where to pray etc. The church that I belong to prays but I know that we can do better. Mr. Wagner has written an excellent book under the guidance of the Holy Ghost!

Not all flatheads

This does not have a break down of all glatheads as stated. I have a 1951 337 and it is not covered in detail at all.

The bebuild manual for flathead

This is a very, very useful reference book about the Ford Flathead. You do know is an older book, still in print and the pictures are good, but not todays standard. I find reviewing some of the old books, I find items offten overlooked by the newer kids on the block(punt) so a well rounded set of books is aways worth having..

Very good basic info

Written a few years before the rebirth of the flathead in street rodding, this book has lots of good basic info to help you rebuild your flathead, or just have an idea of what will happen when you send it out. Not a lot of info on modifying the flathead, better to look for another book for that. Good info, and complete.
